Small boat operations are only conducted in daylight. At sea, small boats must remain within sight of the ship at all times. Maximum
speed will vary widely depending on load and sea state.
ENDEAVOR supplied boats
Zodiac Hurricane 530 deep vee Rigid Hull Inflatable (RIB)
Powered by a 40 horsepower Evinrude outboard, it is 17'5" in length and made with five air chambers. This boat carries a crew of 2
ship's personnel and depending on weather and task up to 7 others. The maximum sea state for launching with the boat davit is
state 3 to 4, at the Master's discretion.
Small inflatable
Powered by a 15 horsepower, 2-stroke, Evinrude outboard. Normally carried deflated and is launched with the ship's crane.
Science party supplied boats
Boats brought by the science party are treated as any other science
equipment as far as stowage is concerned. Its use would be limited by the
weather constraints of crane operations, and any other safety issues to be
determined by the Master.
