ENDEAVOR Marine Technical Services Group

ENDEAVOR operations are supported by an experienced and dedicated group of Marine Technicians who, in addition to being experienced is all areas of research cruise support, carry specialties in various specific areas. Every effort is made to support cruises with the specialized talent necessary to insure mission completion.


David Nelson
Ship's Oceanographic Technician

Dave has had many years experience in the troubleshooting and repair of complex electronic equipment. If it has electrons buzzing around inside Dave can usually repair it. Dave also specialized in the care and feeding of the Scanfish towed package.

Lynne Butler
Ship's Oceanographic Technician

Lynne's specialty is CTD and hydrographic operations. Lynne is also responsible for the MOCNESS towed system. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Aquatic Biology and has served on a wide variety of cruises on numerous research ships for Scripps Institution of Oceanography and NOAA, in addition to the Endeavor.

William Fanning and Tom Orvosh
Ship's Oceanographic Technicians

Bill's specialty is software engineering, networking, and computer management. In addition to a BS in Engineering Bill is a licensed marine officer and has instructed classes in seamanship and navigation.

Tom has had extensive experience in current meter instrumentation as well as being a competent design engineer. Tom has been involved in several instrument and control designs including the bow thruster controller, the Gyrocompass to NMEA converter, the winch control system as well as many other engineering tasks.
